Dear FitRich,
Reader appreciation:
Have you always been driven? Appreciate your honesty in sharing some of your ups-and-downs. When you said using “pain as a motivator”, you’re using a “neurological technique” that creates a happy feeling when getting closer to your goal. I watched something similar from a Dr. Andrew Huberman’s video.
In this Master May, we discuss “How to grow your career 10x faster?”
Yesterday, I watched a film about a team conquering challenges in an obstacle race. The team ranked no. 6 in the first half of the race. To make progress, the team took an unconventional shortcut. They climbed the mountains through ziplining and rock climbing (with a bike! 😱). As a result, they were rewarded as the 1st-runner up.
The business world or job market is no different from a race. You need to work smart, not just hard. A human’s attention span lasts 8 seconds. Clients or hiring managers will leave if you miss the golden chance to keep them engaged.
Why would you stand out from the crowd when you do the same thing as the others?
I am not saying you need to zipline with a bike😂 Put yourself into the audience’s hats - what do they care? What can you do differently to show that you are the one in the sea of competition fast?
In my newsletter about expanding your possibility last week, I shared I was dismissed from work.
After submitting countless resumes, I see little progress.
So I asked myself, “Think out of the box - what more can you do to stand out?”
Here are my game-changers:
Giving examples on my portfolio website boosted my credibility.
Understanding a potential employer’s preferences from chats with their employees helped me prepare for interviews better.
Stretching my product thinking muscles from mock interviews allows me to give quality answers on product improvement at any time.
I started to get calls from big companies.
Eventually, I landed on a better opportunity.
Hindsight is 20/20. You may not see the value of things you do today. When you do it and look back, you realise your actions paved the way towards where you are now.
What is one thing you can do today to help others pick you?
It applies to job recruitment or other aspects of your career, like persuading clients to use your products, partners to work with you or venture capitalists to fund you.
Understand what others care about.
Invest in something that differentiates you.
Help others get strong reasons to pick you out from the crowd.
When everyone is working hard, working smart helps you win.
Think out of the box 📦
Do something that differentiates you.
A question for you:
What is one thing you can do today to help others pick you?
